The Obama administration revealed their focus on “precision medicine” in order to address a broader range of diseases.

This initiative requires the created of a “1 million-plus patient repository of genetic information spanning many diseases, giving researchers valuable insights to design the next generation of treatments for patients.”

Precision medicine is the matching of a diagnosis and “treatment strategy to each individual’s unique molecular makeup.”

The president is asking for $215 million to pay for a Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI) to “revolutionize the way we approach health in this country and, ultimately, around the world.”

While medicine has historically developed out of the need for the “average” person, the “result of this one-size-fits-all-approach, treatments can be very successful for some patients but not for others.”

In a statement the White House conveyed: “This is changing with the emergence of precision medicine, an innovative approach to disease prevention and treatment that takes into account individual differences in people’s genes, environments, and lifestyles.”

Also known as “personalized medicine”, this new model of health care “involves the selection of diagnostic tests that have the potential to identify changes in each individual patient’s cancer cells. The use of that knowledge may help to prevent and treat cancer through the development of treatment strategies to target these specific molecular alterations. Ultimately, the goal of precision oncology is to improve patient outcomes.”

According to the White House FACT SHEET, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), together with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) will be collaborating and sharing tax payer money:

  • $130 million to NIH for development of a voluntary national research cohort of a million or more volunteers to propel our understanding of health and disease and set the foundation for a new way of doing research through engaged participants and open, responsible data sharing.
  • $70 million to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of NIH, to scale up efforts to identify genomic drivers in cancer and apply that knowledge in the development of more effective approaches to cancer treatment.
  • $10 million to FDA to acquire additional expertise and advance the development of high quality, curated databases to support the regulatory structure needed to advance innovation in precision medicine and protect public health.
  • $5 million to ONC to support the development of interoperability standards and requirements that address privacy and enable secure exchange of data across systems.

To combat cancer, the NCI will create “a national ‘cancer knowledge network’ will generate and share new knowledge to fuel scientific discovery and guide treatment decisions.”

The NIH “will launch a national, patient-powered research cohort of one million or more Americans who volunteer to participate in research. Participants will be involved in the design of the Initiative and will have the opportunity to contribute diverse sources of data—including medical records; profiles of the patient’s genes, metabolites (chemical makeup), and microorganisms in and on the body; environmental and lifestyle data; patient-generated information; and personal device and sensor data.”

The HHS will be tasked with soliciting “input from patient groups, bioethicists, privacy, and civil liberties advocates, technologists, and other experts in order to identify and address any legal and technical issues related to the privacy and security of data in the context of precision medicine.”

The FDA “will develop a new approach for evaluating Next Generation Sequencing technologies — tests that rapidly sequence large segments of a person’s DNA, or even their entire genome … [to] facilitate the generation of knowledge about which genetic changes are important to patient care and foster innovation in genetic sequencing technology, while ensuring that the tests are accurate and reliable.”

In addition, the president is setting up a public-private partnership with “academic medical centers, researchers, foundations, privacy experts, medical ethicists, and medical product innovators to lay the foundation for this effort, including developing new approaches to patient participation and empowerment.”

Kathy Giusti, founder of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF)commented : “For more than five years, we have worked with the world’s leaders in precision medicine from industry and academia to build a new research approach from the ground up, first sequencing the myeloma genome, and then designing and launching the largest long-term research study ever conducted in our disease.”

Giusti continued: “We now track the progress of more than 800 participants, looking for correlations between a patient’s genetic profile, disease progression, and response to therapy. We share the results in the public domain as soon as they are available, with an eye toward improving clinical care today, and pointing the way to the targeted therapies of tomorrow.”

Zombie Cookies: Verizon Now Lets Customers Opt Out of Surveillance

Verizon has decided to allow customers “the ability to shut down supercookies” that monitor online searches and collects private data for corporations.

Known in the industry as the Unique Identifier Header (UIDH), because of public “outcry” Verizon has acquiesced to the demands of their customers and compromised in allowing customers the choice of whether or not to let UIDH watch and record them rather than nixing the usage all together.

And after bad press facilitated by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) for exposing this brand of spying on the public, Verizon chose to save face with customers and change their protocol.

Debra Lewis, spokesperson for Verizon explained: “Verizon takes customer privacy seriously and it is a central consideration as we develop new products and services. We have begun working to expand the opt-out to include the identifier referred to as the UIDH, and expect that to be available soon. As a reminder, Verizon never shares customer information with third parties as part of our advertising programs.”

Yet, these supercookies are more insidious than just monitoring user activity for corporate benefit.

ProPublica released a report in January of 2015 regarding the advertising company called Turn and their UIDH tracking cookies that are used by large tech firms to “come back to life” even after users have deleted them.

As a result of the report, Max Ochoa, chief privacy officer for Turn wrote in a blog post: “We have heard the concerns and are actively re-evaluating this method. In the meantime, we have begun work to suspend the re-association of a Turn cookie ID with a Verizon UIDH. By early February, Turn will not ‘respawn’ cookie IDs associated with the Verizon UIDH.”

Ochoa continued: “As part of this re-evaluation, Turn is engaging with media and industry participants including advocates to further educate and inform regarding industry-wide practices.”

In the report, it was revealed that Turn is “taking advantage of a hidden undeletable number that Verizon uses to monitor customers’ habits on their smartphones and tablets” by respawning those “tracking cookies that users have deleted.”

UIDHs, or perma-cookies (UIDHs), are a sneaky monitoring of customers is used “to help marketers create more targeted ads based on their customers’ unique browsing habits.”

In 2012, UIDHs were used by Verizon to provide a way for advertisers with “demographic and third-party interest-based segments” to help them deliver “relevant ads” based on mobile devices’ unique identifiers.

Shockingly, more than 100 million Verizon customers were affected by this snooping by the corporation, tracking individual customer usage and reporting the findings to the federal government and advertising corporations.

Non-Verizon customer could become victims of monitoring using UIDHs, as can be found with Straight Talk, a pay-as-you-go plan.

Verizon explains that UIDHs are “an improvement over alternative authentication methodologies that may be spoofed or require multiple steps and user entries. From a customer experience perspective, the use of the UIDH can eliminate the need for re-entering authentication information which improves the experience and shortens the transaction flow. In essence, the UIDH provides a passive validation confirming that the customer is who s/he says. The UIDH is also used for fraud prevention.”

Verizon’s use of UIDHs “has privacy implications far beyond those programs.”

AT&T also uses UIDHs; however they claim they are testing the technology and not “currently operate a mobile relevant ad program that would use such tracking information.”

Stunning figure comes from Congressional Budget Office report that revised cost estimates for the next 10 years

Report: Obamacare program costs $50,000 in taxpayer money for every American who gets health insurance

It will cost the federal government – taxpayers, that is – $50,000 for every person who gets health insurance under the Obamacare law, the Congressional Budget Office revealed on Monday.

The number comes from figures buried in a 15-page section of the nonpartisan organization’s new ten-year budget outlook.

The best-case scenario described by the CBO would result in ‘between 24 million and 27 million’ fewer Americans being uninsured in 2025, compared to the year before the Affordable Care Act took effect.

Pulling that off will cost Uncle Sam about $1.35 trillion – or $50,000 per head.

Today was a very big day for journalist, activist and American political prisoner Barrett Brown

Oligarch Justice – Powerful Pedophiles Roam Free as Barrett Brown Returns to Jail

If Dershowitz was a good friend to Epstein, he was a better lawyer. Along with a dream team of attorneys that included Gerald Lefcourt, Roy Black, and Ken Starr, he was successful in getting federal investigators not to charge Epstein with moving his victims across state lines and other associated crimes. The federal non-prosecution agreement Epstein’s legal team negotiated with the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida immunized all named and unnamed “potential co-conspirators” in Epstein’s child trafficking network, which includes those who allegedly procured minors for Epstein and also any powerbrokers who may have molested them. Although Dershowitz wasn’t a signatory to the plea agreement, the latest filings in Roberts’s case against Epstein accuse Dershowitz of essentially negotiating his own immunity.

From the Gawker article: Flight Logs Put Clinton, Dershowitz on Pedophile Billionaire’s Sex Jet

Today was a very big day for journalist, activist and American political prisoner Barrett Brown. Though he was supposed to be sentenced last month (see: Political Prisoner Barrett Brown to Be Sentenced Tomorrow – Why the Result Matters to Freedom in America), it was delayed until today.
Tragically, he was ultimately sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for some relatively innocuous offenses. For those of us who have been following this saga for several years, it is abundantly clear that Barrett is being punished for exposing the shady behavior of some powerful people within the intelligence-industrial complex. He is one of several people (Aaron Swartz, Thomas Drake, Private Manning, and Julian Assange) who have been aggressively targeted, not for what they have done, but rather for their ability to embarrass and expose the evils of the rich and powerful.

It’s quite fitting that on the same day Barrett is sentenced to an additional three years in jail (he has already served 28 months), Nick Bryant over at Gawker writes a very interesting piece about all of the high profile people who not only befriended, but also repeatedly took flights with, pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.

Before I get into the meat of this piece, I want to make it clear that just because certain people were on these flights doesn’t mean they committed any crimes (although it certainly shows horrible judgement of character). Nevertheless, some people mentioned clearly did commit crimes, and when you see how easily these people got off, compared to say Barrett Brown, you’ll see what a sad joke American “justice” has become.

With that out of the way, here are some excerpts from the Gawkerarticle:

Bill Clinton took repeated trips on the “Lolita Express“—the private passenger jet owned by billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein—with an actress in softcore porn movies whose name appears in Epstein’s address book under an entry for “massages,” according to flight logbooks obtained by Gawker and published today for the first time. The logs also show that Clinton shared more than a dozen flights with a woman who federal prosecutors believe procured underage girls to sexually service Epstein and his friends and acted as a “potential co-conspirator” in his crimes.

Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 in Florida to one count of soliciting underage girls for sex (and one count of adult solicitation), for which he served just over a year in county jail. But sprawling local, state, and federal investigations into the eccentric investor’s habit of paying teen girls for “massages”—sessions during which he would allegedly penetrate girls with sex toys, demand to be masturbated, and have intercourse—turned up a massive network of victims, including 35 female minors whom federal prosecutors believed he’d sexually abused. He has reportedly settled lawsuits from more than 30 “Jane Doe” victims since 2008; the youngest alleged victim was 12 years old at the time of her abuse.
For all of this, the extremely wealthy Epstein served only a year in jail. Furthermore, as an excellent, must read article from the Daily Beast noted at the time: “During Epstein’s term of “house arrest,” he made several trips each month to his New York home and his private Caribbean island. In the earlier stage of his sentence for soliciting prostitution with a minor—13 months in the Palm Beach Stockade—he was allowed out to his office each day.”

In summer of 2008, just before the banker bailouts were announced, this guy was already getting banker justice. Back to Gawker.

Epstein’s predatory past, and his now-inconvenient relationships with a Who’s Who of the Davos set, hit the front pages again earlier this month when one of his victims, Virginia Roberts, claimed in a federal court filing that Epstein recruited her as a “sex slave” at the age of 15 and “sexually trafficked [her] to politically-connected and financially-powerful people,” including Prince Andrew and attorney Alan Dershowitz. (The latter, the filing claimed, had sex with the victim “on private planes”; Dershowitz vigorously denies the charges, as does Prince Andrew.)

Two female associates of Epstein—the socialite Ghislaine Maxwell and Epstein’s former assistant Sarah Kellen—have been repeatedly accused in court filings of acting as pimps for him, recruiting and grooming young girls into their network of child sex workers, and frequently participating in sex acts with them. Kellen in particular was believed by detectives in the Palm Beach Police Department, which was the first to start unraveling the operation, to be so deeply involved in the enterprise that they prepared a warrant for her arrest as an accessory to molestation and sex with minors. In the end, she was never arrested or charged, and federal prosecutors granted her immunity in a 2007 non-prosecution agreement that described her as a “potential co-conspirator” in sex trafficking.
Read that again. In the end, she was never arrested or charged and received immunity. See:
Screen Shot 2015-01-22 at 2.20.00 PM
Clinton shared Epstein’s plane with Kellen and Maxwell on at least 11 flights in 2002 and 2003—before any of the allegations against them became public—according to the pilots’ logbooks, which have surfaced in civil litigation surrounding Epstein’s crimes. In January 2002, for instance, Clinton, his aide Doug Band, and Clinton’s Secret Service detail are listed on a flight from Japan to Hong Kong with Epstein, Maxwell, Kellen, and two women described only as “Janice” and “Jessica.” One month later, records show, Clinton hopped a ride from Miami to Westchester on a flight that also included Epstein, Maxwell, Kellen, and a woman described only as “one female.”

In 2002, as New York has reported, Clinton recruited Epstein to make his plane available for a week-long anti-poverty and anti-AIDS tour of Africa with Kevin Spacey, Chris Tucker, billionaire creep Ron Burkle, Clinton confidant Gayle Smith (who now serves on Barack Obama’s National Security Council), and others. The logs from that trip show that Maxwell, Kellen, and a woman named Chauntae Davis joined the entourage for five days.

Other prominent figures whose names appear in the logs, which document globe-spanning flights on Epstein’s planes during various periods from 1997 to 2005, include Dershowitz, former Treasury Secretary and Harvard president Larry Summers, Naomi Campbell, and scientist Stephen Pinker.

The logs also cast doubt on public statements made by Dershowitz, who has been vigorously downplaying his relationship with Epstein since Roberts levied her accusations against him. Dershowitz has attempted to paint himself as a mere passing acquaintance of Epstein, suggesting to the American Lawyer last week that he only began hanging around the billionaire to fundraise for his school, Harvard.

Q. From what I’ve read, your relationship with Epstein seemed chummy. You socialized with him and you and your family stayed at his various homes. Isn’t it a bad idea for a lawyer to be so close to a notorious client?

A. Let me tell you how I met him. I was introduced to him by Lady de Rothschild as an academic colleague. He was friendly with Larry Summers… He was in the process of contributing $50 million to Harvard for evolutionary biology.
What’s more, Dershowitz told the American Lawyer, he is loyal to his wife, who is always by his side: “I’ve been married to the same woman for 28 years. She goes with me everywhere. People know that I won’t argue a case or give a speech unless my wife travels with me. This is not the profile of someone who screws around.”

But according to the flight logs, Dershowitz was close enough to Epstein to have accompanied him on a flight from Palm Beach to New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport as early as December 1997. On that flight, the pair was accompanied by a number of people, including one unidentified “female,” a “Hazel,” a “Claire,” and Maxwell.

The logs also show Dershowitz on a flight with Epstein from Bedminster, Mass., to Teterboro inOctober 1998, and a flight from Teterboro to Martha’s Vineyard in 1999. And a 2005 trip from Massachusetts to Montreal shows him traveling with Epstein, “Tatianna,” and others.

One things the logs don’t show: Dershowitz’s wife traveling with him.

• Dershowitz also said of Epstein: “I’m on my 20th book. . . . The only person outside my immediate family that I send drafts to is Jeffrey.”
Sure sounds like a passing acquaintance to me. You’d think Dersh would be better at keeping his lies straight.

Although Dershowitz wasn’t a signatory to the plea agreement, the latest filings in Roberts’s case against Epstein accuse Dershowitz of essentially negotiating his own immunity:

Dershowitz would later play a significant role in negotiating the NPA on Epstein’s behalf. Indeed, Dershowitz helped negotiate an agreement that provided immunity from federal prosecution in the Southern District of Florida not only to Epstein, but also to “any potential co-conspirators of Epstein”. . . . Thus, Dershowitz helped negotiate an agreement with a provision that provided protection for himself against criminal prosecution in Florida for sexually abusing Jane Doe #3.
This is how oligarchs receive justice. You already saw what happens to the plebs.

EXCLUSIVE: The Ingenious Scheme to Install the Silent Brother

The latest Edward Snowden revelations center on exposing how the National Security Agency (NSA) creates and uses their own private surveillance networks.

Snowden provided documents to Der Spiegel alleging that the NSA “is using its network of servers around the world to monitor botnets made up of thousands or millions of infected computers. When needed, the agency can exploit features of those botnets to insert its own malware on the already compromised computers, through a technology codenamed Quantumbot.”

Another “covert NSA program” called DEFIANTWARRIOR is able to take over botnet computers for creating a “pervasive network analysis vantage point” which is an access gateway that is a proverbial pipeline that can monitor all data and information that passes through the main line without being detected.

Snowden stated “this is only done for foreign computers. Bots that are based in the U.S. are reported Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Office of Victim Assistance .”

Protection operations at this digital level would necessitate “police monitors” at points within the information pipeline. Cybersecurity firms could safely monopolize the data-flow of the internet while being the gateway to this information above governments and international entities.

And the only thing standing in the way of a corporate entity syphoning user data from a direct pipeline is a digital shadow Big Brother company contracted to be there by corporations.

Meanwhile, in the US the net neutrality debate has flared up again and taken to new heights.

Robert McDowell, former member of the Federal Communications Commission spoke out requesting that the FCC “defer to Congress now that GOP members have released draft legislation to enforce net neutrality rules.”

McDowell wrote in an op-ed piece: “While Republicans and Democrats try to work out a deal, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler should hit the pause button on next month’s vote and let the elected representatives of the American people try to find common ground. At the end of this constitutional process, all sides may be able to claim victory.”

In 2014, it was revealed that the fake grassroots campaigns such as Broadband for America (BFA) and the American Consumer Institute (ACI) are manufactured opposition pushing net neutrality.

BFA is heavily funded by the National Cable and Telecom Association (NCTA) which is an investor group that represents corporations such as Comcast, Time Warner, Cox and others.

While BFA has invested $3.5 million to create this fake revolution, the NCTA has provided $2 million to thwart any effort toward designating broadband as a public entity.

This organization claims to be for net neutrality, their investors and funding shows that they are actually controlled opposition.

For example, Beneva Shulte, a member of BFA, is a senior counselor for the DCI Group, a lobbyist organization that has Verizon as a customer and has been a respected political consulting firm to the US Telecom Association.

In fact, John Sununu, honorary chair for BFA is also a paid member of the board of directors for Time Warner Cable (TWC).

BFA has provided millions to fund Congressman Harold Ford, SKD Knickerbocker and Anita Dunn who a former communications director for the Obama administration.

Included in the organizations benefiting from BFA is the Republican National Convention (RNC) who was given $1.3 million in “consulting fees” to the RNC chairman Ed Gillespie.

More corporate “grassroots” campaigns have popped up in favor of net neutrality and the public such as Talking With Heroes (TWH), a group supporting US veterans rights who suddenly became political and vocal about the necessity of net neutrality.

The Ohio League of Conservation Voters (OLCV) is a supporter of BFA.

Another organization is the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals (TORCH) that stated it was “duped” into believing that BFA “was a cause promoting broadband installation in rural areas.”

Tim Karr, senior director of strategy at Free Press (FP) explained that “Broadband for America is well practiced in the art of fooling people. Like other AstroTurf groups that have entered the debate over the future of the internet, BFA has erected a scrim of public-interest rhetoric to hide its true intentions: pushing the policy objectives of the nation’s largest phone and cable companies. Sadly, the debate over issues like net neutrality and municipal Wi-Fi has been polluted by many such operations.”

EXCLUSIVE: Davos Corporate Elite Debate the End of Democracy

By | 'Info To Know', OccupyCorporatism | No Comments

Susanne Posel ,Chief Editor Occupy Corporatism | The US Independent

The 2015 Annual World Economic Forum at Davos has begun their conference withone burning question : “Can governments that dissociate economic from political freedoms endure and prosper over the long term?”

Because of “mass protest movements” resulting in obvious “state failures rather than stable democracies” the next question is “What has gone wrong with democracy [and] how can democracy be revived?”

Interestingly, the open forum at the WEF debated whether or not democracy is dead and the conclusion that democracy’s future is “under serious challenge”.

The accusation that democracy has failed to deal with important issues such as:

  • Climate change
  • That this style of governing “produces corrupt politicians who are incompetent”
  • That minorities are threatened by democracy
  • It is too short term
  • It has become “money politics” through wealthy purchasing outcomes that they want

Ali Tarhouni, president of the Libyan Constituent Assembly (LCA) and a leader of the Arab Spring commented: “The failure of democracy, in many ways, is the separation of the political process from the economic developments – at least that’s a key element to it.”

Tarhouri explained that the anger of certain factions in Libya that “despised” the government were channeled into the Arab Spring and their ultimate downfall was their “failure” to envision any other type of governance beyond what they’d previously experienced.

The lesson for Tarhouri was that those who destroy current governments must think about the replacement government they would like to install before they actively attempt to tear down current governance. The goal is that the new government must be “at least marginally better than the one before.”

Wang Hui, professor of Chinese literature and language at Tsinghua University, added that there was a time when it was assumed that China could “borrow” the ideals of democracy from the West; yet now the people would rather not “transplant” western-style democracy into China because of the “economic opportunities” that the current form of government offers.

China has “suffered from social inequality, corruption, and a certain kind of political force” that facilitated a political distancing from social necessities.

Protests in China were fence-sitting in demands as on the one hand the people wanted “protection of citizen’s rights, but on the other hand they resort to some older slogans like the redistribution on the order of socialism to revive certain kinds of elements for the more democratic way.”

On the issue of the balance between the “ruling majority and the protection of minorities”, Vitali Klitschko, mayor of Kiev in the Ukraine, blurted out that his country is “a European country” and will be a democracy within a year’s time.

Klitschko said that Ukraine is in Europe “geographically” and the Ukrainian “mentality is European”.

Calling the Ukrainian uprising a “revolution of dignity”, Klitschko recalled that the idea of merging their nation into the European Union was what the protesters were vying for.

Klitschko said that the Russian Federation was upset that the Ukraine would not become part of “a new big empire like before, but we Ukrainians don’t want to be back in USSR. We want to be modern European democratic country.”

When asked about the relationship between war and democracy and the militant way in which democracy is given to the people, Klitschko replied: “We can’t find compromise in regard our independency, our unity. If the president don’t listen to the population, disappoint millions of people, and make money for himself everybody know about it. People crowded the streets to kick out the president.”

Angel Gurria, secretary-general of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OEOD), said that in the 1960s there was a plethora of parties “and the traditional parties lost their footing … as a result of a more educated, more informed society it was inevitable that there would be a change.”

Ironically, Gurria pointed out that the government 12 years ago that was voted out, is back in control and this means that “democracy is alive” and making progress.

Conversely, democracy “is actually happening and people are becoming more and more demanding, and then they want to transform the institutions and what do we have now? What are the legacies of the crisis? Low growth, highest unemployment, growing inequalities. And what is the result? A massive explosion of trust in everything we’ve built in a 100 years; in presidents, prime ministers, ministers, political parties, multi-nationals, banking systems, international organizations.”

The mistrust of the institutions upon which democracy is founded on the idea that “this democracy not delivering and not providing solutions for my problems and this is why we have this loss of trust.”

Gurria said that if governments “don’t deliver” than the question becomes is democracy wrong or is it “that democracy is generating the pressure, the demand that there is transparency and that people deliver on the quality of those services. And now they have different ways of telling it; they go to the NGOs, the internet, [and] the media.”

While ranting on how democracy allows freedom of the media “and not the other way around”, Gurria said: “Governments have not delivered on what they were supposed to do which is ultimately more wellbeing. Welfare for the whole of the people, particularly the most vulnerable. And therefore don’t confuse the efficiency of governments and the mandates of government with democracy itself.”

Politicians have “over promised” wellbeing and growth when they could not have ever made good on that promise while simultaneously being “not competent enough to deliver economic growth”.

Factoring in the “threshold of tolerance” of the masses and the realization that multi-national corporations and the wealthy elite have unfair advantages over the majority of citizens, the people “find there is corruption and that the procurement systems are wrong and that there’s conflict of interest, lobbying, and revolving doors” which turns into “a bubbling anger” that causes “people to take it to the streets” and behave in “very destructive and clearly socially unacceptable ways”.

Essentially, democracy “made it possible” for protests, demonstrations, disenfranchisement and distain for the leaders of government.

Gurria asserts that it is in this stage that the “fringes … use their freedom under democracy in order to express [themselves] in undesirable fashions.”

When free speech is manipulated to encompass derogatory statements about minorities, there must be “a balance” concerning the “respect of others” because with the inevitability of globalization, “aging societies need migration and diversity to continue to function and to grow.”

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper commented that “good democracy” allows for the diversity of opinion to be discussed and this does not suit the “new media” who want instant solutions.

Hickenlooper said: “Too often now we end up with a theocracy – that the constituencies, the special interest groups band together and block almost any effort around progress. And that’s part of the challenge.”

The success of a democracy, according to Hickenlooper, is dependent on empathy built on trust “which leads to transactions”.

The flames of the extreme polarization of the “American political debate” has been fanned by media in the US through mediums such as “Fox News and CNN” while portraying a society that is going to more extremes to be heard which “makes government more difficult”.

Because unemployment alters the psyche of a demographic of a society, the “bitterness of the partisanship” in the US through “attack ads” has ruthlessly injected the marketing of politics.

Attack ads work because they speak to the emotional centers of the public while their use creates a vicious cycle of necessity to justify both side’s position.

Hickenlooper explained: “What we are doing with these attack ads is we are diminishing the product category of democracy. And people turn off the news, they stop reading in depth about the issues. We accept that at our own peril.”

With the Millennial generation “they only want the headlines and too often will not go into the depth needed to understand these issues.”

When in the 1980s there was mandates that demanded one extreme view presented in media had to be mirrored with the opposite view to keep a fair balance of reporting, “deregulating that opened up this extraordinary polarized debate.”

Hickenlooper argues that media has polarized debates and freedom of speech has become the caveat.

He then remarked how the governors and heads of state for Mexico, the US and Canada would be meeting in 2015 to discuss the beginning of the assimilation of those countries.

If the goal of democracy is what it delivers, there is a “difficulty in delivering that idea to part of the world” such as Russia and the Middle East.

The problem is the “cost of the failure of the democratic process” and the perspective of indigenous ideology which destroys “what is”.

Democracy then becomes a call for inclusiveness and a sustainable economic model in order to make that style of government a “reality”.

The Obama White House and the State Department under the management of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton “changed sides in the war on terror” in 2011 by implementing a policy of facilitating the delivery of weapons to the al-Qaida-dominated rebel militias in Libya attempting to oust Moammar Gadhafi from power, the Citizens Commission on Benghazi concluded in its interim report.

In WND interviews, several members of the commission have disclosed their finding that the mission of Christopher Stevens, prior to the fall of Gadhafi and during Stevens’ time as U.S. ambassador, was the management of a secret gun-running program operated out of the Benghazi compound.

The Obama administration’s gun-running project in Libya, much like the “fast and furious” program under Eric Holder’s Justice Department, operated without seeking or obtaining authorization by Congress.

WND reported Monday that in exclusive interviews conducted with 11 of the 17 members of the commission, it is clear that while the CCB is still enthusiastic to work with Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, and hopeful that Boehner is serious about the investigation, various members of the CCB, speaking on their own behalf and not as spokesmen for the commission, are expressing concerns, wanting to make sure the Gowdy investigation is not compromised by elements within the GOP.
The Citizen’s Commission on Benghazi’s interim report, in a paragraph titled “Changing sides in the War on Terror,” alleges “the U.S. was fully aware of and facilitating the delivery of weapons to the Al Qaeda-dominated rebel militias throughout the 2011 rebellion.”
